Brighten Your Home With a Spring Wreath
Wreaths aren’t just for Christmas time! This past weekend I made a spring wreath for all of my family members so that they could welcome spring into their homes. This spring wreath uses minimal materials and is sophisticated and simple with a bit of bohemian charm. It is fresh but will dry out and look lovely for weeks.
What You Need:
- 1 Clothing Hanger
- 2 stems seeded eucalyptus
- 2 stems Italian Ruscus
- Wire (24 or 26 gauge)
- Pruning Sheers
- 2′ ribbon of your choice
- Artificial flowers (optional)
1. Bend your metal clothing hanger into a circle as per photo 1. I first straightened the hanger completely and then gently bent it into a circle. At the top hook the two ends together and secure with plenty of wire; weaving the wire all around the two hanger ends to keep them together.
2. Prep your greens. Cut the greens into small pieces about 3″-5″ long to create mini branches as those shown in photo 2 above.
3. Wire each small branch individually onto your clothing hanger frame. Start at the top of the wreath frame and using a 1″ piece of wire twist it around the end of the branch to secure it on the frame. Attach all of your branches so that they are going in the same direction – on my wreath I wired the branches at their base which was on the left, and kept the nice tips of the greens outwards/on the right. Work counter clock wise and alternate between adding your seeded eucalyptus and the Italian ruscus. With each new branch you add you should cover the wire that secured the previous branch. When you have completed the circle, go back and add branches wherever is looks sparse.
4. Add in your artificial flowers. I kept the artificial flowers minimal to suit the style I was going for. I added the artificial flowers in small clusters equally spaced around the wreath. Wire in your artificial flowers in the same way as the real branches – with about 1″ of wire and place the flowers so that they are going in the same direction as the greens.
5. Use a ribbon to hang your wreath. I used a 1″ wide satin ribbon in cream to keep the look simple and opted for just a knot instead of a bow. You can have a lot of fun with ribbon by choosing different colours and patterns. Choose your artificial flowers and ribbon to match each other and to suit your personality and decor. Go wild!
6. Hang your wreath inside or outside (both options shown below). It will dry out within a couple of days and still look lovely!
