one-of-a-kind-show-toronto-4-copy  The most lovely booth by Love at First Blush – such pretty jewellery!

It’s that time of year again…

The One of a Kind Show! If you haven’t been before, the One of a Kind Show is a bi-annual show at the Enercare Centre (Exhibition Place) that showcases local Canadian makers who are selling everything from delicious food, to beautiful clothing, and stunning artwork (to name just a few things!). Oh, and it’s also my favourite show of the year!

For as long as I can remember, buying local and supporting Canadian makers has been important to my family. I grew up in the Niagara region where buying things like local fruit, flowers and wine was just something that we did, and I’ve tried my best to carry that into other parts of my life. I’m sure many of you know from reading my previous posts, but I really try my best to buy quality clothing that is often made in Canada. This is just the type of thing that the One of a Kind Show is all about, which is amazing!

Hats by Tuck Shop Co. – these are the perfect hats for any proud Toronto folk!

Dan and I go to the show every year and always make sure to walk down every aisle and have a look at each vendor (even though the venue is huge and our feet get a little sore!). We have our favourite vendors – shout out to Monique at Moonrox :) – and are always excited to discover new makers and buy a little something special that was handmade with care.

At this show you will find super talented artisans who work so hard to produce and sell quality, ethical products – something that can be hard to find at our usual box stores and malls these days! As always, I was really excited to attend, but this year I also had the privilege of working with the One of a Kind Show to style a mannequin for the Fashion District.

Welcome to the Fashion District…

For my mannequin, I chose a few pieces of clothing that stood out to me from makers that I think are producing some really cute, unique, and versatile items. I chose a scarf and top combo by Melissa Nepton, a black vest by Eve Gravel, and an A-line skirt from Birds of North America. These three companies caught my attention for a few different reasons…

Melissa Nepton

Melissa Nepton’s pieces feature sophisticated cuts, made with beautiful materials, and delicate textures. Her pieces are all about cut and material and they are pieces that would compliment any outfit!

Eve Gravel

Eve Gravel’s work is all about bold silhouettes and a lot of beautiful patterns in black and white. Her collection this season features a lot of vests, like the one I dressed my mannequin in, which just so happen to be one of my favourite fall / winter pieces!

Birds of North America

Birds of North America is a little more playful with a lot of fun patterns and girly cuts. Their booth at the show is full of bold colours. This is the perfect spot to go for cute party dresses and skirts for the holidays!

These are a Few of my Favourite Things…

Undeniably, the accessories are always what get me most excited at the show! There is fabulous jewellery, handbags, hats and more. Below are a few of my favourite pieces to keep your eye out for this year.

Uppdoo, who made all the purses above makes beautiful leather hand bags. The second one was their entry into the Silver and Gold competition between artisans this year. It is now at the TOP of my wish list! I couldn’t stop looking at it!

Fletcher One of a Kind Show
Fletcher by Kimberley Fletcher makes beautiful veg tanned leather bags like the one above in lovely versatile shapes. She is from Montreal and so sweet!

This necklace was also from the silver and gold competition and seriously took my breath away. It’s by Nancy Johnston Artist

MoonRox makes such fun jewellery using gold tones and colourful beads and gems. It’s always our first stop at the One of a Kind Show!

I hope you all are having a wonderful November and that you get a chance to check out the One of a Kind Show happening until December 4th at the Enercare Centre (maybe you’ll even see my mannequin!).

Here’s to supporting local!

Thank you to the One of a Kind Show for partnering on this post
