Last week I visited the Yves Rocher store in the Eaton Centre for my first facial…ever! Friends, you have no idea how nervous I was! I wish I were joking but, being a first time ‘facialer’, I really had no idea what to expect.
Before going, I read through the list of facials that Yves Rocher offers and settled on the Detox. Can’t decide which one is for you? Worry not! Right at the Yves Rocher store they are able to read your skin – they basically just touch your skin with their reader and all your skin secrets are revealed! Moisture, oil, dead skin etc. From here the skin care technician can recommend which facial is best for you. From my skin reading, I found out that my skin is VERY dry (note to self: drink more water!!). The detox treatment was going to be perfect for this because it ended with 2 hydrating masks.
My facial started with a cleansing and exfoliation – both of these felt quite similar to what I do to my face daily. It was gentle which suited me perfectly. This was followed by an intense steaming of my face to open up the pores. You know when you open the dishwasher and it releases a ton of steam? It was just like that! After this the technician did some extractions. Yes…that means they went about removing things like blackheads and clogged pores. Each extraction was like a tiny pinch but very tolerable. After that I enjoyed a facial massage and the whole experience was finished off with two hydrating gel masks.
I was told that this was a fairly well rounded facial and good for a first timer. If you are looking for a facial tailored to your skin type then I suggest getting you skin tested first to find out which treatment is best for you.
So…the final verdict?
Was the experience something to be nervous about? Absolutely not! It was relaxing and easy and I left feeling refreshed and ready for the spring! Wonderig how often you should get facial!? I was too! Yves Rocher recommends 4 times a year to line up with the changing of the seasons to refresh the skin before the changing temperatures and environmental conditions. I guess I’ll be seeing the lovely spa again in September (this time as a seasoned second time ‘facialer’ ;))!
PS…Did you know that the products used during facials are much more concentrated than what is sold in the zproduct lines in Yves Rocher stores? That’s part of the reason why facials are so effective!
Why Yves Rocher?
So, if you are a regular reader here (hi! thank you! I love you!), you will notice that I’ve shared a few posts about Yves Rocher in the past few months. Clearly, they are a brand that I like and have decided to have a partnership with here on my little blog. Last year Yves Rocher approached me about working on a few posts together. At the time I didn’t know a ton about the brand but they appreciated that I loved plants and flowers and, since that is something that is important to their brand too, felt that we might make a good fit. Woah…cool! As I started to research and learn about the company I quickly realized that, indeed, they are just the sort of company that I want to talk about here on Threads & Blooms. I wanted to share with you some of the reasons why I have come to like Yves Rocher, (beyond just their products), and why I will continue to share about them here.
1. Their Mission Statement
The goal of Yves Rocher is to become the most respectful beauty brand to both women and the planet…I’m on board already!
2. They’re Plant Based
All Yves Rocher products use only plant based active ingredients. This has been the foundation of Yves Rocher since their start over 50 years ago (started by Yves Rocher himself, and now run by his grandson).
3. They’re Committed to the Environment
Yves Rocher is committed to sourcing plant ingredients only from sustainable sources and they even grow some of their own ingredients in their crops in La Gacilly, France. They also ensure that their wash away products, such as cleansers and shampoos, use biodegradable ingredients. Recently they have switched much of their packaging over from plastic to glass.
Also, the Yves Rocher foundation has planted over 50 MILLION trees and they have pledged to reach 100 million by 2020. SAY WHAT?! Read about that here.
4. They’re Accessible
Yves Rocher stand alone stores are located all over the world and their products are available online through their own website allowing their products to be shipped anywhere.
5. They’re Affordable
All of these things are great but affordability is key to ensuring that the product can be used by everyone. Sure enough, that is one of their goals too! Their business model of having their own botanists and researchers, farms and harvesters, manufacturing facilities (all located in La Gacilly, France) and standalone stores keeps their costs down because the system is free of any intermediates. This also allows them to guarantee their traceability and quality.
6. La Gacilly
Okay, this has got to be one of the coolest things about Yves Rocher! Many of the Yves Rocher operations are based out of La Gacilly – a small village in Brittany, France. La Gacilly was actually established by Yves Rocher himself and is really known as being the hub for all things Yves Rocher. There is even a beautiful Yves Rocher Eco-Hotel and Spa located here (seriously, click that link and get ready to day dream). This is the FIRST 100% eco-designed hotel and is built to meet the highest global environmental standards. Friends, it sounds incredible. An organic restaurant, rooms surrounded by greenery, green roofs, open air art gallery and more. With my background being in landscape architecture and having a love for all things green and beautiful, you better believe that this just crawled its way to the top of my ‘destinations to visit’ list!!
Thanks for reading all this, Friends! I really thought it was worth sharing with you. And hey, whaddaya say you go treat yourself to a facial now?!
Thank you to Yves Rocher for sponsoring this post. All opinions, post direction, and experiences are my own.
